Bolt Tensioning

Bolt tensioning is the process of applying an axial hydraulic load to flange, exchanger or turbine studs to stretch them, then winding the nut onto the mating face to retain the load.

Generally 50% of studs are tensioned at a time which brings the joint together evenly on the gasket, thus providing the best chance for an effective long term seal.

Bolt tensioning is quick and highly accurate. It is most commonly used for stud sizes 1” and above.

BLJ In-situ Solutions provide local engineering support, including bolt load calculations and flange stress analysis.

We stock Bolt Tensioners to suit up to 3-1/2” dia. studs.
